I am elated to officially announce my newest consortium: I cannot wait to showcase the bold, delicate, sophisticated, adventurous, and colorful sounds of the modern-day Brass Quintet in my upcoming composition for the world to experience!

Leading this brand-new consortium is the world-renowned Seraph Brass (pictured), founded by trumpet soloist, Yamaha Performing Artist, and Gold Medal Global Music Award Winner Mary Elizabeth Bowden; winners of the American Prize in Chamber Music, Seraph Brass has been praised for their “beautiful sounds” (American Record Guide), “fine playing” (Gramophone), and “staggeringly high caliber of performance” (Textura). Frequently Asked Questions:

What is a consortium? In a consortium, multiple people or groups have the opportunity to contribute to a new piece of music for exclusive benefits at a price considerably lower than a traditional commission. One individual or group typically makes a higher payment to serve as the leader of the consortium, and that individual or group typically holds the privilege of giving the world premiere. This consortium's leader is Seraph Brass, founded by Mary Bowden.

Do I have to be in a brass quintet to join? Of course not! Anyone who wishes to support this project can join and will receive the same benefits, whether they play in a quintet or not.

Can I join even if I'm in a high school or other student group? Yes! There are no age limits to join the consortium. Depending on your circumstance, you may submit yourself, or you may choose to have a parent, guardian, or teacher submit on your behalf as your representative.

Can my quintet split the cost amongst each other to enter the consortium? Members of a quintet are welcome and encouraged to contribute amongst each other towards the consortium. Please be advised that the official payment will take place as one lump sum; it is recommended that group members contribute their money to one representative, who will be responsible for making the payment.

Will this piece be for sale to the public once it's complete? Yes, but not immediately. After the consortium ends on September 10th, 2023, the piece will re-enter the market for sale to the general public in the following Spring, six months after the world premiere. This gives a short exclusivity period for consortium members to plan their own performances if they wish to be among the first to perform the piece.

Do I have to perform the piece if I join the consortium? Nope! There will be no requirement for consortium participants to perform this piece during the exclusivity period, or at all.

I was told that the members of the "Sonata for Heroes" consortium would receive a discount to the quintet consortium. Is this still true? Yes. If you were a member of my trumpet sonata consortium, please see the email you used for that consortium for information on joining this consortium at a discounted price. If you do not have access to your email anymore, please contact me via email using your new or replaced email address so that you can be accounted for.

What's the best way to reach you if I have more questions? All consortium questions can be sent to msgrantmusic+consortium@gmail.com. Either I or a member of my team will get back to you as soon as possible!

You just missed us!

This consortium closed on September 10th, but leave me your email address, and we will send you news updates when the piece becomes available to the public!!

Success! You will receive consortium updates!
